Community Celebrates Successful Launch of Book – Madden –Memories, Milestones and Music

A packed house gathered at the Armagh City Hotel last night, 11 December to celebrate the official launch of Memories, Milestones and Music. A remarkable book capturing the rich heritage, stories, and musical traditions of the Madden community.

The event was a resounding success, drawing contributors, local residents, and supporters eager to mark this historic occasion.

Compere for the evening was Brendan Vallely. It commenced with an engaging Q&A session with the historical group, John Woods, Eileen Maguire and Ryan McParland, who shared insights into the journey of compiling the book. Editor Fionnuala Cassidy and Creative Designer Noel Comac, reflected on their roles in shaping the book’s content and design.

Guests enjoyed a musical performance from Melissa Smith, accompanied by her uncle Simon.  The event concluded with a monologue by Mick Smith and readings from Contributors.

Eileen Maguire described the publication as “a treasure trove of local heritage.” She added, “this collection of stories, anecdotes, and reflections truly captures the spirit of a community deeply rooted in culture, tradition, and resilience. It honours the people, places, and events that have shaped Madden’s identity across generations. The remarkable turnout and enthusiasm at the launch demonstrate just how much this means to the community, and the book will stand as a lasting record for time to come.”

The historical group expressed heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped and supported in bringing the book to life, including generous sponsors, local businesses, and the Armagh Banbridge Craigavon Community Planning Partnership.
